Most safety conferences leave you with a folder of slides. GSIS 2027 won't.
Global Safety Innovation Summit 2027
Dates: 7–10 February 2027
(Welcome Reception: Sunday 7 February; Summit: Monday 8 – Wednesday 10 February)
Venue: Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia
Here's the honest version: most safety conferences leave you with a folder full of slides and a vague sense that you should do things differently. You fly home, get back to your inbox, and things carry on much as they did before.
GSIS exists because that's not good enough.
The Global Safety Innovation Summit returning to the Gold Coast in February 2027 is built around a simple idea: that the people who want to genuinely improve safety at work deserve more than a day of presentations. They deserve real access to the people doing the best thinking in the field, real time to dig into what it means for their organisation, and real conversations with others wrestling with the same challenges.
We know a lot more about why people get hurt at work than we did twenty years ago. The research is there. What's often missing is the bridge between that research and what actually happens on Monday morning. That's the bridge we're trying to build.
So no, this isn't a regular safety conference. There are no rows of chairs, no hard sells, and nothing that feels like professional development you have to sit through. What's here instead is three days of genuinely useful work with some of the sharpest minds in safety, and some of the most committed practitioners you'll ever share a room with.
We deliberately keep numbers small. Because access matters. And because the best conversations happen when people actually have space to talk.
"The best personal development opportunity I have undertaken in 20 years."
|
"Gamechanging, inspiring at times confrontational, but overwhelmingly worthwhile and one of the highlights of my safety career."
|
"I have worked around the world in multiple industries and attended many similar conferences. This one was by far the most impressive lineup I have ever seen." 2024 Delegates

Who Attends?
This one's not just for the safety team.
People get hurt at work because of decisions made at every level, not just by the safety department. So GSIS is for everyone with a hand in how work gets done:
-
The event that will challenge and re-energise your practice.
-
Day 1 is built for senior leaders who want to know what the evidence says and what it asks of them.
-
Practical tools you can use straight away, for the people closest to the work.
-
Perspectives that are increasingly essential to the conversation, and often missing from it.
-
Space to explore what genuine safety assurance looks like beyond a policy library.
-
Researchers and practitioners in the same room, and the cross-pollination that makes GSIS different.
-
A number of fully-funded places for current students. See the Student Program section to apply.
"An essential event for Executives, CEOs and Boards."
"The best networking, learning, sharing, 'no-sales' summit you will attend in the safety domain."
"A collection of the leading minds in safety a must for business leaders."
2024 Delegates
WHY ATTEND?
Three days that give you what years in the field sometimes can't.
"You'd be hard pressed to pack as much depth and breadth of experience as you'll find at GSIS. It's three days where you'll take away learning that might otherwise be years in the making."
"An outstanding event, it covers the underpinning science, how to engage executives, and gives practical examples of integration. Attending this conference supercharges your ability to save lives."
"It was the most valuable safety event I have ever attended."
"Safety is never boring and #GSIS is the proof."
2024 Delegates
-

WORLD-CLASS SPEAKERS, ACTUALLY IN THE ROOM WITH YOU.
These aren't names chosen for recognition. They're leading voices in safety science, human factors, organisational psychology, safety law and frontline practice, and at GSIS they don't just present, they facilitate workshops, answer your questions, and have lunch at the table next to you.
-

YOU DON’T JUST ATTEND. YOU WORK.
Day 1 gives you the big-picture keynotes that set the foundation, then Days 2 and 3 shift into hands-on workshops on challenges from your own workplace. You leave with specific actions, not a notebook of ideas that never make it off the page.
-

YOU BUILD YOUR OWN PROGRAM
With 12 workshops running concurrently in each session block on Days 2 and 3, every delegate builds the program that fits their priorities. Whatever you're focused on, there's a room for you.
-

THE ROOM IS WORTH AS MUCH AS THE STAGE.
GSIS attracts senior safety professionals, operational leaders, researchers and regulators who are serious about doing things better. Attendees consistently point to the calibre of conversation, in sessions and between them, as one of the things that sets GSIS apart.
The program.
Every day builds on the last. And every delegate leaves with something to do.
GSIS isn't structured like a typical conference where each day is a fresh start. The three days are designed to move you from understanding, to application, to action.

Sun · 7 Feb
Welcome Reception
6:30 pm – 8:30 pm . Pearls Bar.
The Summit starts the night before, see the Social Program below.
DAY 1 · Mon 8 Feb
The Case for Safety Innovation
8:30am – 5:30pm, followed by Poolside Dinner
Good for people, good for business
Day 1 is built around the big questions. Why do workplaces keep failing in the same ways? What does the research say about effective safety leadership? What are regulators really looking for, and where do most organisations fall short?
International keynote speakers set the scene, practitioners share what the journey looks like in the real world, and legal experts tackle the gap between what compliance requires and what genuine duty of care demands.
If you're bringing an executive or board member, Day 1 is the day to bring them. It closes with the Poolside Dinner, one of the best nights of the year (more in the Social Program).
DAY 2 · Tue 9 Feb
Breaking the Safety Plateau
9:00am – 5:30pm, followed by SafetyStock 2.0
Real case studies, the honest version
Day 2 goes deeper, with real-life case studies from some of the biggest global names. They'll share the challenges they faced and how they worked through them, the honest version, not the polished one.
It's the perfect lead-in to the workshops. You build on the knowledge from the plenary and then take it into smaller sessions, where the focus shifts to the challenges you're dealing with in your own organisation.
Day 2 finishes with SafetyStock 2.0, our signature off-site evening event. More in the Social Program below.
DAY 3 · Wed 10 Feb
Getting Into Action
9:00am – 7:00pm, including Farewell Drinks
Making what works, stick
The final day tackles the hardest part: what happens when you get back to work.
Day 3 brings more case studies and practical guidance on what good actually looks like and how to make it stick, so you leave with the tools to put it into practice.
The day closes with the whole faculty on stage for a live Q&A, then a single card for every delegate: the one thing you'll do differently in the next 90 days. Simple, but it works.
SOCIAL PROGRAM
Some of the best conversations happen away from the lectern.
Not an add-on, a continuation of everything happening in the rooms.
SUN 7 FEB · 5:30–7:00PM
Welcome Reception
Pearls Bar, Sheraton Grand Mirage. Arrive the night before, meet some faces, have a drink.
MON 8 FEB · 6:30–9:30PM
Poolside Dinner
An outdoor BBQ beside the lagoon pool. Year after year, people say this is where the connections that stuck were made.
TUE 9 FEB · 6:30–11:00PM
SafetyStock 2.0
Off-site, transfers included. Where? Not telling. The thing people talk about most when describing GSI to someone who hasn't been.
Want to be part of what's building here?
GSIS is a for-purpose organisation, run by volunteers. Every dollar we generate goes back into safety research and the development of the profession. So when we talk about partnership, we mean something different from a logo on a banner.
The people who come to GSIS are senior safety leaders, executives, researchers and regulators actively trying to change how their organisations work. They're not looking for sales pitches. They're looking for organisations that share their commitment, and they notice who shows up as a partner.
If that sounds like your organisation, we'd love to talk.
Annual Partnership
GSI's annual partnerships run year-round, not just at Summit time. They include access to our industry-funded PhD research program, seats at our Think Tank sessions, Summit registrations, and recognition across everything we do.
2027 Summit Sponsorship
A small number of event-specific sponsorships are available for GSIS 2027. Annual Partners get first access, so if you're interested, don't wait.
REGISTRATION INFORMATION
Secure your place, numbers are capped.
We keep GSIS deliberately small. Not because we can't fill a bigger room, but because the whole point is access to the experts, to each other, and to real working time. Once it's full, it's full.
Register early. First Release pricing won't last.
- 3 days of sessions, all catered breaks, access to pre and post conference materials
- A ticket to the Welcome Reception (Sunday, 7 Feb), Poolside BBQ (Monday, 8 Feb), SafetyStock 2.0 (Tuesday, 9 Feb)
- Monday sessions, all catered breaks, access to pre and post conference materials

All pricing is quoted in AUD and inclusive of GST.
Bringing a team?
We offer a 5% group discount for organisations wanting to send 5 or more attendees.
It's also genuinely worth it, having a few people from the same organisation in the room means you can work on your actual challenges together, not just take notes individually.

-
It's a three-day summit for people who want to genuinely improve safety at work, not tick a compliance box. GSIS brings together safety professionals, executives, researchers, regulators and students from across Australia and around the world. The 2027 event is our second Summit, following a sold-out inaugural event in 2024.
-
The Welcome Reception is on Sunday 7 February 2027. The Summit itself runs Monday 8 through Wednesday 10 February, at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort, Gold Coast, Queensland.
-
Not at all. Day 1 is particularly relevant for executives and senior leaders. Days 2 and 3 are more hands-on and suit safety practitioners, people managers and anyone implementing change in their organisation. We deliberately design the program to work for both groups.
-
We cap numbers intentionally. GSIS isn't a big convention where you sit in an auditorium and watch a stage, it's a smaller, curated event where you actually get time with the experts and with each other. We'll share capacity numbers closer to the event.
-
Full registration includes all sessions, keynotes and workshops, morning and afternoon teas and lunches each day, the Poolside Dinner on Monday, SafetyStock 2.0 on Tuesday, Farewell Drinks on Wednesday, the Summit app, and access to official event photos.
-
Yes. One-day registrations are available for Monday only. Just note that the days are quite different in format Day 1 is keynote-led and suits executives and leaders; Days 2 and 3 are workshop-heavy and more hands-on.
-
Yes. A 5% discount is applied when you register a group of 5 or more on the online registration.
-
Quite possibly, yes. We run a Student Grant Program each year, funded by our sponsors, that provides free full registrations to current OHS/WHS students. Head to the Student Program section for eligibility criteria and how to apply.
-
We've secured a block of rooms at the Sheraton Grand Mirage at a special delegate rate of $350 per room per night, including breakfast. Book via the registration link when securing your Summit ticket.
-
SafetyStock is our off-site evening event on Day 2. The venue and format are kept secret until the night and we plan to keep it that way. If you came in 2024, you know. If you didn't, just trust the reviews and make sure you're there.
-
No. We're a for-purpose organisation. Every dollar generated by the Summit is reinvested into safety research, learning programs and the profession. Our Directors and Organising Committee are all volunteers, practitioners and academics who give their time because they care about where safety is heading.
-
A substitute delegate can be nominated to attend in your place at any time up to 48 hours prior to the start of the event. Should you be unable to find a replacement and seek a refund, the following applies:
60+ days prior to event start date: A $50 administration fee applies
60 - 15 days prior to event start date: 50% refund of fees
Less than 14 days prior to event start date: No refund of fees
